You may think that cold weather is to blame for your
dry lips, but there are other reasons. Discover them and see what you can do for hydration.
Besides cold and air, your lips may crack due to an allergic reaction to a specific product or food. Also, the cause may be a fungal infection or the negative effect of the sun on your sensitive lips, known as actinic cheilitis.
Persistent dryness of the lips may also be a sign of a lack of vitamins B and C, iron, zinc, and folic acid. That's why it's important to start treating your cracked lips by changing your diet. A balanced diet, with fruits and vegetables, can prevent the dryness of your lips in the future.
Also, you should stop licking your lips, as saliva is acidic and worsens the condition. In periods when your lips are so cracked, it's good to use a more reinforced moisturizing product many times during the day, such as lip balm or petroleum jelly.
Look for thicker textures with ingredients like dimethicone and shea butter. However, avoid lip products containing eucalyptus, mint, cinnamon, or added fragrances, as they can cause additional irritation.
