Vaginal Suppositories

Vaginal Suppositories: Supportive Formulations, Not Self-Treatment

The vaginal suppository, also known as an oval or ovule, is a solid form that is inserted into the vagina and gradually melts with the body temperature. Its advantage over other forms is its duration of stay: because it releases its components slowly, it is usually chosen for evening application so that it remains in place all night. On the shelves of the pharmacy, you mainly find suppositories with lactobacilli, lactic acid or with soothing and moisturizing ingredients.

Here we need a clear explanation. Suppositories of this category are not medicines and do not treat infections. None of them address yeast infections, bacterial vaginitis or urinary tract infections. Their role is to support the normal balance and reduce the feeling of discomfort. Infections are diagnosed and treated by a gynecologist, with his own treatment plan.

When They Are Most Often Requested

After Antibiotic Treatment

A course of antibiotics can alter the normal flora. Many doctors recommend formulations with lactobacilli as a supportive measure after the end of the treatment. Always ask when exactly the scheme starts.

In Phases of Cycle Instability

Changes before the period, after childbirth or during breastfeeding are often accompanied by a feeling of dryness and sensitivity. The suppository is chosen when a longer presence of the formulation is desired than what a gel provides.

In the Perimenopausal Period

With the drop in estrogens, the mucous membrane becomes thinner. Moisturizing suppositories offer a sense of comfort, complementary to what is described in menopause.

After Swimming or Travel

Pool, sea, many hours in a swimsuit or tight clothes create conditions that many women recognize as initiating discomfort. The suppository here acts supportively and not protectively in the medical sense.

Practical Points for Use

• Time of Application: ideally before sleep, lying down, with clean hands.
• Serviette: useful, because residues of the suppository are naturally expelled in the morning.
• Storage Conditions: cool place, away from sunlight, because the form is sensitive to heat.
• Duration of Scheme: follow exactly the days of the leaflet, without extension on your own initiative.
• Period: most schemes are interrupted during bleeding.
• Preventive: some formulations affect latex, so check the packaging.

What You Will Find in the Category

The Intermed Eva Intima Biolact is the most recognizable option with lactobacilli, in a pack of ten vaginal suppositories, and is often requested for supporting the normal flora. The Intermed Eva Intima Mycosis range is a second, paraben-free version, which also acts supportively and does not replace a prescribed treatment. Because the two options address different situations, the choice is made based on what your doctor has told you or after a discussion at the pharmacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Quickly Will I Feel a Difference?

The feeling of comfort usually improves within the first few days, but the schemes are completed as specified by the packaging. If there is no improvement, do not continue in vain and seek an evaluation.

Can I Use Them Every Month Preventively?

Repeated use without reason is not recommended. If you feel you need them constantly, this is an indication that something has not been investigated and not a reason for permanent use.

Suppository or Gel?

The suppository provides a prolonged presence at night, while the vaginal gels spread more easily and provide a more immediate sense of relief. Many women alternate them on recommendation.

Do I Need to Change My Cleanser?

Not necessarily, as long as it is mild. See the options in cleansing and avoid scented products while the scheme lasts.

I Have Recurrences Every Few Months. What Do I Do?

Recurring discomforts need investigation, because they may be linked to causes that are not visible on their own. Make an appointment with a gynecologist instead of trying successive formulations.
