How will children return to school: The rules for the safe return of students
Beyond the rules on how children should behave at school, over the last two years there have been behavior and hygiene rules due to the pandemic.
As the opening of schools is just a few days away, it is time to prepare your children and young students to return safely.
The Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, regarding the start of the new school year 2021-2022 and after a relevant proposal from the Special Committee, announced the following:
Students and teachers will approach school units as follows:
• students with a vaccination certificate (for students 12 years and older) or a certificate of past illness (last six months) or a declaration of a negative self-test (which will be carried out twice a week (Tuesday and Friday), up to 24 hours before arriving at school,
• teachers with a vaccination certificate or a certificate of past illness from COVID-19 (last six months) or a certificate of a negative laboratory test, which should also be carried out twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) at the responsibility and cost of the employee.
If a confirmed COVID-19 case is identified:
• they are removed from school and remain in isolation for at least 10 days, avoiding all extracurricular activities as well as any other movement or contact with people outside the home environment.
• they return to the school unit after at least 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms AND 3 days have passed since the complete withdrawal of fever (without taking antipyretics) AND the improvement of other symptoms. Medical certification is not required for return to school.
Additionally, for close contacts:
• increased laboratory testing is provided for a period of 7 days as follows:
• For unvaccinated students and teachers in the department where a case was found:
◦ 2 laboratory tests – rapid in addition to the foreseen ones
◦ if unvaccinated students sat next to or immediately behind or behind the case, they are subjected to daily self-tests (on days when they do not do the 2 laboratory tests).
• For vaccinated students and teachers in the department where a case was found:
◦ 2 self-tests regardless of the seat position.
The secrets for children:
Correct mask application: It is important for children to remember to touch the mask only by the cords at the ears, for greater safety and hygiene. Make sure to supply one or two extra masks for possible accidents and remember that the best way for children to understand why they should wear the mask correctly is for you to wear it correctly!
Washing hands: Encourage your children to wash their hands frequently. Establish specific rules at home regarding hand washing, such as every time a family member leaves or returns home but also before and after eating.
