The avocado that "burns" belly fat: One a day is enough

One of the most popular fruits in modern nutrition, avocado, is not just a tasty addition to salads and sandwiches. According to a recent scientific study from the University of Illinois, daily avocado consumption may contribute to reducing the dangerous belly fat in women.

What the study showed

The research was conducted on 105 overweight or obese adults, who for twelve weeks consumed a daily meal containing whole avocado. The goal of the researchers was not weight loss, but the redistribution of body fat, especially in the abdominal area.

The visceral fat – the fat that surrounds the internal organs – is considered particularly dangerous, as it is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Unlike subcutaneous fat (under the skin), visceral fat directly affects the functioning of vital organs.

Impressive benefits for women

The group that consumed avocado daily showed significant changes. Women who participated in the study showed a reduction in visceral fat and an improved ratio of visceral to subcutaneous fat, which is considered positive for overall health. Conversely, no similar change was observed in men.

Glucose and diabetes: Was there an effect?

Despite the changes in abdominal fat, the researchers did not find substantial differences in glucose tolerance, an important indicator for the onset of type 2 diabetes. This suggests that the beneficial effect of avocado is likely limited to fat distribution rather than glucose metabolism.

Why only in women?

The fact that benefits were recorded only in the female gender opens the way for further scientific investigation. Researchers plan new studies to understand the hormonal and metabolic mechanisms affected by avocado and to determine why there is a difference between men and women.

In conclusion

An avocado a day may help women reduce dangerous abdominal fat, without necessarily leading to overall weight loss. Although the findings are encouraging, further research is needed to fully confirm the benefits and explain the observed gender differences.

Avocado, with its unique composition of healthy fats and phytonutrients, proves to be a valuable addition to daily nutrition – especially for those seeking improved fat distribution and better metabolic health.
