The extract of serenoa repens is produced from the brown berries of the saw palmetto plant, which thrives mainly in the southeastern United States.
Saw palmetto has been used for many centuries to treat prostate problems.
According to a 1993 report in Germany, 90% of patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia are treated with natural remedies and 50% of German urologists prefer the administration of herbal extracts over synthetic drugs. Of all the herbs, saw palmetto is the most widely used.
