Doctor's Formulas Seleno Plus: what is it and for whom

The Seleno Plus of Doctor's Formulas is a dietary supplement in capsules that combines selenium from three different sources with vitamin E. The package contains 60 capsules and the dosage is one capsule per day, i.e. two months of intake.

Selenium is a trace element, meaning that the body needs it in very small amounts but cannot function without it. It is incorporated into specialized proteins, the selenoproteins, which participate in key functions. The selenium content in food depends directly on how much selenium is in the soil where it was grown, which is why intake varies significantly from region to region.

Ingredients one by one

Selenium 0.25 mg per capsule from three sources

Selenium here does not come from a single raw material but from a combination of three: SelenoExcell (0.12% selenium) 125 mg, L-selenomethionine (0.5% selenium) 10 mg and sodium selenite (1% selenium) 5 mg. This design combines organic forms of selenium, where the trace element is incorporated into amino acids, with an inorganic form.

Selenium contributes to the normal function of the immune system*, the normal function of the thyroid*, the protection of cells from oxidative stress*, the maintenance of the normal condition of hair* and nails* and the normal spermatogenesis*.

SelenoExcell

Patented selenium raw material, in which the trace element is bound in an organic form. It participates in Seleno Plus with 125 mg per capsule and provides 0.12% selenium.

L-selenomethionine

Selenomethionine is the form in which selenium naturally exists in plant-based foods, where it has replaced sulfur in the amino acid methionine. It is one of the most studied organic forms of selenium in nutritional science.

Sodium selenite

Inorganic salt of selenium, the form most commonly found in basic formulations and fortified foods.

Vitamin E (D-alpha tocopherol) 38.5 mg

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and the D-alpha form is its natural version. It is present in the formula together with selenium because the two nutrients work at complementary points in cellular metabolism. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress*.

Other ingredients

Maltodextrin, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide. Seleno Plus does not contain preservatives, gluten, fragrances or sweeteners. Because the capsule shell is made of gelatin, the product is not suitable for vegetarians and fasting diets.

Who is it suitable for

It is aimed at adults who want targeted selenium intake in the form of one capsule per day. It is suitable for people with a monotonous diet, without seafood, nuts or whole grains, as well as for those who monitor their thyroid function with their doctor.

It is not intended for children. Because selenium is a trace element with a narrow safe intake range, do not combine Seleno Plus with another selenium-containing preparation, such as a multivitamin or thyroid formula, without first consulting your doctor. In pregnancy, lactation or medication, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Frequently asked questions

How many capsules per day?

One capsule per day. Do not exceed the recommended dose, especially with selenium products.

Morning or evening, with food?

The formula contains vitamin E, which is fat-soluble. Taking it with a meal that contains fat is the most reasonable option. The time of day does not matter, as long as it is consistent so as not to be forgotten.

How long does the package last?

The 60 capsules with one dose per day last for two months.

Can I take it with another supplement?

Check first if any of your other preparations already contain selenium. Many multivitamins and many thyroid formulas contain it, and the total intake may exceed the desired amount. Our pharmacist can do this check with you.

Is it related to the thyroid?

Selenium contributes to the normal function of the thyroid*. If you have a diagnosed thyroid condition or are on related medication, the supplement does not replace it and intake should be discussed with your doctor.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?

No, the capsule shell is made of gelatin of animal origin.

How soon will I see a difference?

This is a dietary supplement, not a medicine. Its role is to cover dietary intake of selenium and vitamin E, so it is evaluated over time and in relation to overall diet, not day by day.
