Macrogol is an inert water-soluble polymer with high molecular weight. It has the ability to create bonds with the water used during intake, which it retains within the feces. It enhances rehydration and softens stools, facilitating defecation. It accelerates intestinal transit by stimulating peristalsis. It is not absorbed or metabolized in the intestine. It does not disturb the electrolyte balance if taken with the appropriate dose of liquid.
