Properties
The prostate, this small gland 10-20 gr., is essential for sperm production. It is located just below the bladder and plays an important role in the functioning of the urinary system, as well as in ejaculation and reproduction. the growth of prostate cells (BPH), through the inhibition of the 5 alpha (reductase) enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of testosterone to its active form, dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
the inflammation through the inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins and the release of arachidonic acid, resulting in relief of urinary system problems associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
spasms of the bladder, prostatic urethra and prostatic capsule, through the competitive action of the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor.
Additionally, clinical studies have shown that Serenoa repens by inhibiting the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) contributes to the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
