Antioxidant Action - Reduction of Glycation

 

Benfotiamine is the fat-soluble form of vitamin B1 (thiamine), which supports and helps the healthy metabolism of blood sugars and thus helps protect the cells and tissues of the body from excessive glycation and oxidative stress. Benfotiamine activates glucose metabolism and helps maintain normal blood sugar levels.

 

It also reduces excessive glycation, prevents glucose toxicity in the blood, and repairs the damage to endothelial cells caused by excessive glycation. Finally, it helps in the good health and function of the nerves, kidneys, eyes, heart, and blood vessels.

 

The enzyme transketolase, which is important for the metabolism of sugars, needs a cofactor to function properly, and this is provided by vitamin B1. This activation is necessary to stop three of the four metabolic pathways that lead to damage and destruction of the vessels. Benfotiamine also stops the activation of the transcription factor known as nuclear factor Kappa B (NF-kB), which participates in a large number of inflammatory processes.
