Coenzyme Q10 is also known as ubiquinone or ubidecarenone. It is a fat-soluble substance present in most eukaryotic cells and is mainly found in the mitochondria. It is a component that participates in the electron transport chain, aerobic cellular respiration, and the production of energy in the form of ATP.

Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant activity, as it acts as an energy carrier and is continuously transformed through oxidation-reduction from ubiquinone (oxidized form) to ubiquinol (reduced form). It also helps in the regeneration of other antioxidant components, such as vitamin E.
