L-Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid primarily involved in the metabolism and excretion of urea as well as in the synthesis of DNA. L-arginine is important for the production of growth hormone (stimulating the pituitary gland), the production of sperm (participating in sperm and seminal fluid), the improvement of insulin sensitivity, the improvement of muscle tone, the healing of wounds (stimulating collagen formation), and for maintaining healthy blood pressure levels as a nitric oxide producer.
Arginine is the primary component used as a basis for the formation of nitric oxide. Whenever the body activates the nitric oxide synthase enzyme to convert excess arginine into citrulline (another amino acid), nitric oxide is produced.
This activity mainly occurs in the liver. Often, the supplemental intake of L-arginine is necessary. For example, patients with protein malnutrition or after excessive intake of lysine or with burns and possible infections may need arginine intake. Symptoms of arginine deficiency include poor wound healing, hair loss, rashes, constipation, and fatty liver.
Recommended Use: As a dietary supplement, take 2 capsules 1-3 times daily as needed.
