Amino Acids

L-Tyrosine is an essential amino acid, important for the structure of almost all proteins in the body, which the organism synthesizes from phenylalanine (another amino acid).

It participates in the synthesis of thyroid hormones (Thyroxine T4 and Triiodothyronine T3) and gives very good results in cases of hypothyroidism.

It is also a precursor in the production of several neurotransmitters, including L-dopa, dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine.

L-Tyrosine, through its effect on neurotransmitters, can influence various health conditions of the body, including Parkinson's disease, depression, and other disorders. Preliminary findings show the beneficial effect of tyrosine on people affected by dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.

Due to its role as a precursor of norepinephrine and epinephrine, tyrosine can also facilitate the negative effects of environmental, psychological, and physical stress. If the levels of these neurotransmitters are insufficient, feelings of sadness, anxiety, irritability, and frustration may develop. Additionally, dopamine contributes to appetite suppression and reduction of body fat. L-Tyrosine is converted by the cells

of the skin into melanin, the pigment that protects against the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. People born with the genetic condition phenylketonuria (PKU) are unable to metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine. The administration of tyrosine supplements may be beneficial for some individuals with PKU.
