Balsamelaio or otherwise known as Spatholado is a 'miraculous' oil with a deep red color, known since antiquity as the oil used by Spartan soldiers to heal their wounds. It is made from olive oil and balsam herb, and this herb is also known by the following names: hypericum, saint john's wort, sword grass, lichen grass, etc. The yellow flowers of the herb have the highest concentration of the most beneficial ingredients, mainly hypericin and hyperforin.
It is analgesic, anti-inflammatory and healing, extremely effective for sciatica and lower back pain, as well as for any rheumatic pain, joint pain and any kind of wounds, injuries, bruises and discharges, sprains, insect bites, burns, inflammations, ulcers, edemas, hemorrhoids, dermatitis.
For cramps, twitches, chills, neuralgias and headaches we make rubs or light massages on the painful area. We can also apply topical patches with a soaked gauze and wrap it with a waterproof membrane.
Pregnant women and nursing mothers should not use balsamelaio.
Because hypericin, contained in the plant, is a photosensitive substance, it is recommended after using balsamelaio not to be exposed to sunlight. Keep the oil in a dark bottle, away from sunlight.
