Curcumin is a widely studied substance that belongs to the category of polyphenols and presents significant benefits to the human organism. More specifically, curcumin is known for its antioxidant properties. Other properties of turmeric include its contribution to the normal function of the heart, nervous and immune systems, as well as the maintenance of the normal condition of the liver and skin.*
However, the clinical effectiveness of curcumin is low due to its limited solubility and bioavailability, as well as its rapid metabolism by the gastrointestinal system. This results in low absorption of curcumin by the body, since 3 hours after intake it is almost undetectable in blood serum.
To address this problem of low absorption, researchers over the last decade have developed different forms, with an emphasis on improving the bioavailability of curcumin.
Micelles were found to have up to 50 times higher bioavailability compared to other forms such as phytosomes and liposomes, and 100 times higher bioavailability compared to simple curcumin formulations.
Micelles are water-soluble microscopic spherical structures that are formed when lipophilic substances (e.g. oils, vitamins, curcumin) are “packaged” with surfactant molecules, making them water-soluble and easier to absorb by the body.
The micellar curcumin of Viogenesis encapsulates curcumin in microscopic hydrophilic spheres, using the nanotechnological NovaSOL® technology, resulting in its high absorption by the intestine and increased bioavailability, which was found to be 185 times higher, based on AUC.
Thus, the micellar curcumin of Viogenesis is an innovative and utilizable form that has 185 times higher absorption, remains in the bloodstream for 24 hours, and is equivalent to 72 capsules of 100 mg of simple curcumin extract.
