Body Care: Different Rules for Different Areas

The body skin covers almost two square meters and does not behave the same everywhere. The knees and elbows have few sebaceous glands and dry out first, the back is one of the oiliest areas, the armpits and groin folds rub and sweat. A body category must therefore be read by area and need, not as a single shelf with lotions.

What is most often overlooked is the long hot shower. Hot water dissolves the lipids on the surface and leaves the skin to pull as soon as it is wiped off. Often the problem is not solved with richer cream but with milder cleansing and cool water.

Where to go depending on your need

In the shower

The body washes and soaps are the first point of intervention when the skin pulls after the bath, because that's where it is decided how many lipids are lost. Body scrubs make sense once or twice a week, mainly before hair removal or self-tanning. The bath salts are for those who want the bath as a moment of relaxation and not just cleanliness.

After the shower

The body lotions and creams are the daily choice for normally functioning skin, while body dry skin gathers the denser formulas with urea and ceramides for skin that flakes or scratches. The body oils suit fresh skin immediately after bathing and those who prefer to avoid the feeling of cream.

Daily freshness and scent

The deodorants are divided into deodorants and antiperspirants, with mild versions for sensitive armpits. The women's fragrances are the choice for longer duration and intensity, while the body mist gives a light, discreet scent for refreshing during the day.

Hair removal

Body hair removal covers waxes, creams and devices, while the women's shavers and replacements are for those who stay with the quick, daily solution and want heads that do not irritate.

Targeted needs

The stretch marks and repair concern periods of abrupt weight change or pregnancy, where the goal is elasticity. The anti-aging and body tightening targets sagging in the abdomen, thighs and arms, while the bust and neck tightening works on an area with thin skin and little support. The weight loss products have a complementary role in improving the appearance of the skin and are not a substitute for diet and exercise. For muscle relaxation and ritual care there is the massage.

When the skin reacts

The atopic dermatitis is a chronic condition with dryness, itching and outbreaks. The products here support the skin barrier and relieve the feeling of discomfort, always alongside the treatment prescribed by the doctor. The oily and body acne mainly concerns the back and chest, with cleansers and topical treatments.

Color and tools

The body foundation gives an immediate, uniform look to legs and shoulders for an evening out. The body care items cover sponges, exfoliation gloves and brushes. For hands, feet and nails, care continues in nail care.

What makes the difference in a body formula

• Urea: in low concentrations hydrates, in higher ones softens hardened areas.
• Glycerin: the most reliable moisturizer, helps even in very simple formulations.
• Shea butter and oils: limit moisture loss and give a feeling of softness.
• Ceramides and niacinamide: support the barrier in skin prone to dryness.
• Mild actives: cleanse without leaving a pulling sensation.
• Panthenol and allantoin: soothe after shaving or friction.
• Unscented: reference choice for atopic or sensitive skin.

Popular series in the category

The Pharmasept Tol Velvet is one of the most sought after for mild daily cleansing of the whole family, while the La Roche-Posay Lipikar covers very dry and atopic skin, both in the shower and afterwards. The Bepanthol has a steady audience in body cream and lotion, for large areas, as does the CeraVe Moisturising with ceramides. The BIO OIL remains a classic choice for stretch marks and scars, while the almond oil of Chemco is the economical solution in a large package. In deodorants, the series Pharmasept Hygienic stands out for sensitive skin.

Practical steps that work

Apply the product within three minutes of showering, while the skin is still slightly damp. Start from the feet and go up, giving double the amount to knees, elbows and knees. If using oil and cream, the oil goes last. Exfoliation is done before and not after shaving, and never on irritated skin. Antiperspirants work best when applied to dry skin in the evening.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my legs itch in winter?

The combination of heating, low humidity and hot water dehydrates the skin of the shins, which already has little sebum. Milder body wash and daily hydration usually suffice.

Cream or body oil?

The cream offers both water and fat, the oil mainly fat. In very dry skin, the combination of the two works better than either alone.

Is antiperspirant the same as deodorant?

No. The deodorant limits odor, the antiperspirant reduces sweat with aluminum salts. If your problem is moisture and not smell, you need the latter.

Can I put face cream on my body?

You can, but it's not convenient. Body creams are designed for large areas, spread easier and cost significantly less per use.
