Telangiectasia-Rosacea Disease

Vascular Dilation and Rosacea: Two Concepts That Are Related but Not Identical

Vascular dilations are permanently dilated, very thin blood vessels that appear on the surface of the skin as red or purple lines. On the face, they usually appear on the wings of the nose, the cheeks and the chin. They can be present individually, as a result of chronic sun exposure, heredity or thin skin, without being accompanied by anything else.

Rosacea is something broader: a chronic, relapsing inflammatory dermatosis that manifests with flare-ups, persistent erythemia in the center of the face, a burning sensation and, in some forms, papules and pustules or eye involvement. Vascular dilations are one of the possible features of it, but not the only one and not always present. The distinction is important, because the two conditions are monitored differently by the dermatologist.

What Aggravates the Symptoms

The factors that trigger flare-ups differ from person to person, but some are consistently recurring:

• Sun and UV radiation, the most commonly reported factor.
• Sudden temperature changes, cold air, heating, sauna, hot shower.
• Alcohol, hot drinks and spicy foods.
• Intense stress and vigorous physical exercise.
• Aggressive cosmetics with alcohol, perfume, menthol or harsh exfoliation.
• Friction from towels, cleaning brushes and frequent touching of the face.

Recording your own trigger factors for two or three weeks is one of the most useful things you can do on your own.

What Supportive Skincare Does

Dermatocosmetics of this category are not medical treatment. Their role is to reduce the burden and support the skin between flare-ups. In practice, they soothe the burning sensation, help maintain the skin barrier, improve the appearance of erythemia and, with the help of green or beige correctors, visually balance the tone. Medical interventions, such as laser applications for vascular dilations or prescribed medication, are evaluated exclusively by a dermatologist.

What to Look for in the Composition

• Broad-spectrum sunscreens, preferably mineral, on a daily basis.
• Soothing agents such as bisabolol, allantoin, panthenol and thermal spring water.
• Factors that support vascular walls, such as red vine or blueberry extract.
• Niacinamide, with good tolerance and contribution to tone uniformity.
• Green correctors to visually neutralize redness.
• Without alcohol, perfume, menthol and eucalyptus.

Popular Choices

The URIAGE Roseliane covers protective creams, CC and mask, while the Bioderma Sensibio AR and the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Rosaliac are among the most recognizable proposals of the pharmacy. The Avène Antirougeurs and the Synchroline Rosacure provide comprehensive cleansing and care schemes, the Cetaphil Pro Redness Control and the Eubos Cool & Calm mild daily options. More recent additions are the Lierac Protocole Anti-Rougeurs and the Dr.Jart+ Cicapair with the well-known green corrective texture.

Practically, in Everyday Life

Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle, soap-free formula, patting dry. Keep a few products and introduce them one by one. The sunscreen goes on every morning, all year round, and ideally with mineral filters from the face sunscreens. Avoid scrubs, high-concentration peels and cleansing devices. If your skin generally reacts to irritants, you will find complementary proposals in the sensitive skin, while for mild weekly soothing, see the face masks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the vascular dilations go away on their own?

No. A permanently dilated vessel does not return with cosmetics. Skincare improves appearance and reduces burden, removal is a medical act.

Can I wear makeup?

Yes. Formulas with a green base neutralize redness visually. Choose products without fragrance and remove them with a mild milk or micellar water.

Does diet help?

There is no diet that applies to everyone. However, it is worth observing if alcohol, very hot drinks or spicy foods trigger flare-ups in you and limiting them accordingly.

When should I see a dermatologist?

As soon as possible, especially if papules, pustules, thickening of the skin on the nose or eye discomforts appear. Early assessment changes the course of monitoring.

What is described here is for informational purposes and concerns supportive skincare formulations. Rosacea is a dermatosis that requires diagnosis and monitoring by a dermatologist. Consult a dermatologist or your pharmacist before choosing a care routine.
