Women's Shampoos

Women's Shampoo: the product that cares for the scalp

Shampoo is not a product for the hair. It is a product for the skin under the hair. Its role is to remove sebum, sweat, residues from styling products and pollutants from the scalp, with the least possible burden on the hair length. Your ends, which are often three or four years old, do not need cleansing but nourishment, and this job is done by the cream or mask.

This is where the most common misconception begins. Many women choose shampoo because their lengths are dry, while their roots get oily in a day. The result is a product that is too rich for the scalp and hair that weighs down. The right order is simple: shampoo is chosen for the scalp, the hair cream is chosen for the ends.

Which shampoo suits your hair type

Oily scalp

You need a formula that cleanses thoroughly and rinses out completely, without rich oils in the base. Zinc, mint, green clay and extracts like sabal help keep the scalp clean for longer hours. If the issue is mainly the time between washes, check out the dry shampoos.

Dry scalp that pulls

What is needed are mild surfactants and ingredients that relieve the feeling of tightness: oats, glycerin, urea at low concentration, vegetable butters. Very hot water worsens the condition more than the shampoo itself.

Sensitive scalp

Fewer ingredients, minimal fragrance, no alcohol. Sulfate-free formulas, the so-called sulfate-free, foam less but are gentler on contact. Lavender, chamomile and D-panthenol reduce the feeling of discomfort after washing.

Scalp with dandruff, redness or itching

Here the need is more specific. Check out the shampoos in seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and discuss with your pharmacist. For colored hair, color protection shampoos have a lower pH and a milder cleansing base, so as not to facilitate the exit of dyes: more in colored hair.

What to look for in the composition

• Cleansing base: the sodium laureth sulfate foams and cleans strongly, the coco-glucosides and cocamidopropyl betaine are milder.
• Zinc pyrithione, pyroglutathione olamine: classic ingredients of anti-dandruff shampoos, help reduce visible dandruff.
• D-panthenol, allantoin: soothe and give a feeling of comfort to the scalp.
• Extracts of oats, chamomile, honey: mildness and ease of combing, without weight.
• Keratin and amino acids: improve the feeling of density and contribute to shine.
• No silicones: useful indication for very fine hair that plates, not necessary for all.

Series that are constantly in demand

The Vichy Dercos is the most sought-after dermatocosmetic series on the shelf, with distinct formulas for thinning, oiliness and dandruff. The Apivita covers almost every need with Greek herbal compositions, from chamomile and honey for everyday use to lavender for sensitive scalp. The Klorane works with one plant per formula: oat milk, pomegranate, peony, mint. The Rene Furterer Okara targets blondes, the Bioderma Node targets very sensitive scalps and the Ducray Sabal targets oiliness. In a more affordable range, the L'Oreal Paris Elvive and the Ogx offer large packages.

Washing in action

Wet the hair well before applying the product. Work the shampoo with the fingertips and not with the nails, only on the scalp. The foam that comes down when rinsing is enough for the lengths. A second wash is only needed if oil or a lot of styling product preceded it. The frequency is a personal matter: there are scalps that want daily washing and others that are fine with twice a week. The decisive factor is not how often you wash, but how mild the product is. See also the overall picture in the category Hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to change shampoo to prevent hair from getting used to it?

Hair does not get used to any product. What changes is the scalp, depending on the season or hormonal changes. If something works, keep it.

Does sulfate free foam little. Does it clean?

Yes. Foam is not an indicator of cleanliness. Mild bases require a little more massaging and often a second application the first few times.

I lose hair in the shower. Is the shampoo to blame?

Usually not. The hairs that have completed their cycle are released with combing and washing. If the loss is increased for more than two months, see hair loss and talk to a doctor or pharmacist.

Can I put shampoo on the ends too?

No need. The rinsing passes through the lengths anyway, while the extra rubbing increases breakage.
