Korean Beauty: what it really means

Korean Beauty is not a list of ten mandatory steps. It is a different philosophy of care. Instead of a rich cream that does everything, the Korean approach builds with many thin layers, from the most watery to the most dense, so that the skin gradually absorbs and remains comfortable. The goal is not aggressive correction but the good condition of the barrier, what is described as glass skin, that is, a skin that reflects light uniformly.

The second difference is the position of prevention. Sun protection and hydration come before the powerful active ingredients, and soothing ingredients like centella asiatica have a central role instead of a complementary one. This explains why many Korean formulas suit easily irritated skin.

The product forms you will encounter

Double cleansing

It starts with an oily step that dissolves sunscreen and makeup and continues with a mild foam or gel with low pH. It is the step that makes the most difference and is directly connected to face cleansing of the classic routine.

Toner and essence

Korean toner is not astringent lotion. It is a watery, hydrating layer that is applied with hands on damp skin and prepares for absorption. Essence is the intermediate, slightly thicker version. If you prefer the European approach, see also the tonic lotion.

Serum and ampoule

The most concentrated step, with one or two main actives instead of many together. Common choices are niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and mild PHA acids. The corresponding options are found in the beauty serums and in niacinamide.

Infused masks and patches

The most recognizable part of the category. Fabric masks for hydration, shine or soothing, eye patches, patches for pimples, lip masks, even hydration socks and gloves. They are intensive steps of fifteen to twenty minutes, one to two times a week, and complement the face masks.

Light creams and sunscreens

Korean creams tend to gel cream and emulsion textures that do not weigh down. The sunscreens of the category are famous for the very light feel, without white residue, and are connected to the face sunscreens. In color, cushion foundations and lip tints are the most characteristic forms and fit into makeup.

Ingredients you often encounter

• Centella asiatica: the well-known cica, soothes and improves the appearance of redness.
• Rice extract: a traditional ingredient for shine with mild action on the uniformity of tone.
• Niacinamide: works on pores, glow and dullness.
• PHA acids: gentler exfoliation than AHAs, with larger molecule and less irritation.
• Hyaluronic acid and beta glucans: retain moisture in the upper layers.
• Green tea and aloe: antioxidant and soothing support.
• Charcoal and clay: in cleansing masks for oily skin.

The brands of the section

The Dr.Jart+ Cicapair is the most recognizable line for redness and sensitivity, with cream, serum and the characteristic color correcting product, while the Dr.Jart+ Pore remedy targets enlarged pores and the Dr.Jart+ Dermask covers the intensive masks. The Thank You Farmer has the most complete range, from the True Water line for hydration and the Rice Pure for shine to the Miracle Age Repair for mature skin and the Sun Project sunscreens. The KOCOSTAR specializes in infused masks and patches for face, eyes, lips, hands and feet. The Yadah targets younger, oily skin with tendencies to imperfections, with cleansers, spot treatments and lip tint.

How to set up a routine without exaggerations

A realistic version has five steps in the evening and four in the morning. Evening: oily cleansing, foam, toner with hands on damp skin, serum, cream. Morning: wash or mild foam, toner, serum, sunscreen. The basic rule is from the most fluid to the most dense, with a few seconds in between. The infused mask comes after the toner and is not rinsed off, just absorbed with light taps. Two common mistakes: too many actives together the same night and daily mask use, which in some skins leads to overhydration and intolerance.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need ten steps?

No. The ten steps are a commercial narrative, not a rule. Double cleansing, a hydrating layer, a serum and sunscreen cover most needs.

Do Korean formulas suit sensitive skin?

Many do, especially those based on centella and mild hydrators. Care is needed with scented products and essential oils. See also the options for sensitive skin.

Can I combine Korean with European skincare?

Absolutely. The origin of the product does not change the logic of the routine. It is enough not to overlap the same active ingredients in multiple steps at the same time.

How often do I put on an infused mask?

One to three times a week is enough for most. For very dry skin or after sun exposure, it can be used more often for a short period.
