Hypericum perforatum is a small perennial herbaceous plant that thrives in countries of Europe, Asia, North Africa, and the Americas. It blooms in the summer months and has golden-yellow flowers that show spots, giving them a 'pierced' appearance when placed in light. St. John’s wort is rich in flavonoids and its main active ingredients are hypericin and hyperforin.

The herb is known by various names such as St. John’s wort, balm herb, and sword grass. The name St. John’s wort is said to have originated from the knights of St. John of Jerusalem who used the herb to treat the wounds of injured crusaders. Hence, it also received the name sword grass as it was used as a healing agent for sword wounds.

Each tablet contains: 66mg of dry extract from fresh St. John’s wort flowers (Hypericum perforatum) corresponding to 363μg of hypericin.
