The Bepanthol Derma Replenishing Daily Body Lotion for Very Dry Sensitive Skin is the enhanced version of the Derma series, in a 400ml bottle with a pump. Its formula combines panthenol and glycerin with a thicker lipid phase of triglycerides, shea butter, isostearyl isostearate and argan oil, to respond to a skin that is not satisfied with a simple moisturizer. The manufacturer states immediate hydration from the first application, lasting up to 48 hours.
It is for those who describe their skin as very dry body skin, with a rough texture to the touch, with scales or flaking on the shins and elbows and a feeling of tightness that returns a few hours after bathing. It also covers those looking for lotion for dry skin in winter or for skin troubled by prolonged exposure to air conditioning, and is suitable for sensitive skin.
The keratin layer is like a wall: the cells are the bricks and the intercellular lipids, ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids, the mortar. In simply dry skin the mortar has thinned. In very dry skin, real gaps have been created, so adding water alone is not enough: the water goes in and out again, while the surface continues to look rough.
A richer lipid phase works differently. Emollients fill the natural gaps between the surface scales and smooth the texture, while the more oily ingredients form a thin layer that slows down evaporation. As a cosmetic it does not treat eczema and does not replace treatment. The manufacturer states it is suitable for skin with atopic predisposition, i.e. for daily hydration between crises. For the itching of atopic dermatitis there are medical products such as Bepanthene Sensiderm, and the choice is made with the doctor or pharmacist.
Although more nutritious than the light version, it remains a lotion and not a paste. The manufacturer describes it as non-sticky and fast-absorbing, so a few minutes waiting before dressing is enough.
