Folic acid participates in the synthesis of DNA and RNA of cells playing a crucial role in cell proliferation. Therefore, it is particularly important for fetal development. It has now been proven that taking 400μg of folic acid during the first trimester of pregnancy is necessary to prevent neural tube malformations. Folic acid is known to play an important role in regulating homocysteine levels, a component with a chemical structure similar to an amino acid, which is involved in the damage of the vascular endothelium and which may later lead to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin that is not stored for long periods in the body, making its dietary intake necessary. Dietary sources of folic acid include green vegetables and whole grain cereals. Modern methods of food storage and cooking lead to a reduction in folic acid levels in food, which is reflected in the fact that 47% of women do not consume the minimum daily intake of 200μg/day. Therefore, folic acid supplements are often recommended. Bioavailability studies show that dietary supplements with folic acid are easily absorbed and are an easy and reliable way to prevent nutritional deficiencies.

This product provides 400μg of folic acid which is 3 times more than the level provided by the diet of the majority of the general population, and is the level increasingly recommended.

Absorption time: Less than 1 hour. Suitable for vegetarians.

Dosage: 1 tablet daily.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place and protect from light

Allergies: None.

Precautions: Folic acid should be administered with caution and under the guidance of a physician, in adults who show megaloblastic anemia. The cause of the anemia must be investigated, because if it is due to a deficiency of B12 only and not folic acid, folic acid supplements may correct the anemia, but they may clinically cover the damage that has been suffered by the nerves, spinal cord or brain from the lack of B12 until the appearance of irreversible damage. Therefore, differential diagnosis of megaloblastic anemia must always be made before starting any treatment.
