Fo-Ti (Polygonum multiflorum) or Ho Shou Wu is a woody, perennial vine plant that originates from Central and Southern China and has been used for centuries in the ancient Chinese medical system. In China, it is also called the "Elixir of Life" as it is said to promote longevity, fertility, and vitality.

The processed form of the plant is believed to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood as it contains lectins, natural substances that prevent the accumulation of cholesterol in the liver. According to studies, lectin may possibly help reduce the accumulation of fat and the formation of plaque in the walls of the arteries. It is traditionally used in China to address high cholesterol and as a general tonic for the exhausted body.

Research studies have shown that Fo-Ti contains an alkaloid that has a rejuvenating effect on nerves, brain cells, and endocrine glands. The mechanism of action has not been fully clarified, but it is possibly due to the stimulation of red blood cells. According to Chinese mythology, the health of the hair, the feeling of excess energy, and the sexual prowess possessed by the famous Chinese botanist Chung Yun are said to be due to the daily intake of Fo-Ti as a result of the rejuvenating effect of the alkaloid it contains.

Warning: Fo-Ti is not recommended for people with liver disease. It is recommended to stop using Fo-Ti at least two weeks before any scheduled surgery as it may affect blood sugar levels.
