In scientific terms, inositol is a chemical compound called a cycloalkatol, of which the most important form in nature is myo-inositol. Other forms (isomers) present in nature are: scyllo-, L-chiro, D-chiro- muco-, neo-, allo-, epi-, cis-inositol.
