Solgar MenoPrime is a dietary supplement in tablets, with two standardized plant extracts per tablet: 28mg extract of affron® saffron stigma from Crocus sativus and 4mg extract of Siberian rhubarb ERr 731® from the root of Rheum rhaponticum. The second extract provides 2.2mg of rapontinic acid and 1mg of desoxyraponticin. The package contains 30 tablets, i.e. one month with one tablet per day.
It is aimed at adult women before and during menopause, typically from 45 and over, who are looking for a non-hormonal, herbal option. It is not intended for men, for people under 18 years old, nor for pregnant and lactating women.
In botanical preparations the word standardized is not decorative. It means that the extract is prepared to contain a specific amount of certain compounds, so each batch provides the same profile. Here the standardization is clearly visible in ERr 731®, where the two shining stones of the root, rapontinic acid and desoxyraponticin, are declared by their exact amounts. The affron® is respectively a patented saffron extract with its own production process.
Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world, as for one kilogram of stigmas it takes tens of thousands of flowers, picked by hand. Siberian rhubarb is a different species from culinary rhubarb and its root is used, not the edible stems. Both plants are under study, however the health claims for the botanicals remain on the waiting list of the European Commission and are still being evaluated by the EFSA, so here we describe the composition and not the effect.**

The composition is deliberately small: two extracts, each in a specific, declared amount. It does not contain hormones, nor soy or other phytoestrogens, a point the producer places at the center of the positioning. The other ingredients are technical: bulking agents, anti-caking agents, emulsifiers and coating materials.
