Baking soda is a chemical compound with the chemical formula NaHCO3. It is found under many names such as cooking soda, food soda, sodium bicarbonate, baking soda etc., while its chemical name is acidic sodium carbonate.
Oral intake
- Administration in controlled quantities, can improve performance in sports that involve short periods of high power and speed with short rest intervals (such as in cycling sprints and team sports e.g. football, water polo etc.), where the anaerobic energy production system is used and a large amount of lactic acid is produced.
- Mixed with water, it is a great antacid for those suffering from indigestion and heartburn
Other uses
- Dissolved in saltwater it treats the sting of the purple jellyfish locally.
- Used in toothpastes and mouthwashes for more effective whitening and plaque removal, in deodorants, due to its antiseptic action and in shampoos.
- Easily removes splinters from the skin
- It is an excellent cleaning agent for surfaces and floors, but it is not recommended for use on aluminum or wooden objects and surfaces.
- Removes tarnish from silver objects.
- Used in the washing machine, as it whitens and softens clothes while simultaneously softening the water, preventing the build-up of salts.
- It is a natural insect repellent and fungicide and absorbs bad odors.
- Used to neutralize the pH in gardens, artificial lakes and spas.
