Multivitamins

Multivitamins are combined dietary supplements that contain multiple vitamins and often minerals or trace elements, in a single formula designed to cover a wide range of nutritional needs.

What do multivitamins contain

Multivitamin formulas vary significantly: some include all essential vitamins (A, B-complex, C, D, E, K) and minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium), while others are targeted to specific age groups or needs (e.g., men, women, 50+, athletes). Each component has its own approved health claims based on Regulation (EC) 1924/2006, according to its composition.

When might you need a multivitamin

A balanced, varied diet usually meets most nutritional needs. Multivitamins can help when dietary intake is limited, in special circumstances (pregnancy, breastfeeding, increased physical activity) or in specific age groups with increased needs. They are not intended for the prevention, treatment, or cure of diseases.

How to choose a multivitamin

The choice depends on age, gender, any special needs, and your overall dietary picture. Check each multivitamin's composition to avoid excessive intake of certain components, especially fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) that are stored in the body. Consult a pharmacist if you are already on medication, as many components interact with drugs.

Forms of multivitamins

Available in capsules, tablets, effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, gummies, and liquid form, to suit different preferences for intake, from adults to children.
