Vitamin B

The vitamin B complex includes eight water-soluble vitamins: thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid, and cobalamin. They are water-soluble, which means they are not stored in significant amounts in the body and need regular intake through diet or, when necessary, through dietary supplements.

The role of B vitamins in the body

B vitamins contribute, depending on the specific vitamin, to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological function, reduction of tiredness and fatigue, normal functioning of the immune system, maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes, normal formation of red blood cells, and normal homocysteine metabolism. These are the approved health claims for B vitamins based on Regulation (EC) 1924/2006.

Sources of B vitamins in the diet

B vitamins are found in a wide range of foods, both animal and plant origin: meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, whole grain cereals, legumes, nuts, and green leafy vegetables. Cobalamin (also known as vitamin B-12) is found almost exclusively in animal foods, which is why a strict plant-based diet often requires supplementation.

Which B vitamins are included in the complex

In our catalog, you will find separate categories for each B vitamin (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid, cobalamin), as well as combined B complex formulations that contain all of them in balanced proportions.

When might you need a supplement

Deficiencies in B vitamins can be associated with symptoms such as fatigue, dry skin, or mouth problems, depending on the specific vitamin that is lacking. Groups with increased needs include pregnant women, breastfeeding women, the elderly, vegans, and people with specific dietary habits. Persistent symptoms always require medical evaluation.

Forms of B complex supplements

Available in capsules, tablets, effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, injectable form (only on prescription) and as an ingredient in multivitamin formulations.
