Body Oils

Body Oils: the layer that locks in moisture

Body oils do not hydrate in the literal sense, because they do not contain water. What they do is create a thin film that limits evaporation and leaves the skin soft and shiny. This is why they work best on damp skin or over a lotion, not as a single step on completely dry skin.

There is also confusion between dry oils and traditional plant-based oils. Dry oils contain light, fast-absorbing lipids and do not leave a shine, while thick plant-based oils, like almond oil, stay longer on the surface and are suitable for very dry areas or massages.

Which form suits your use

Dry oils in spray

They are absorbed in seconds, do not stain clothes and are practical for the morning or full-body application after the beach.

Multi-use oils for face, body and hair

The most economical solution for travel. A few drops on the ends of the hair, a few on dry areas of the body.

Oils with shine and shimmer

For evening looks and summer. They give a metallic reflection on shoulders and shins, often with a lasting fragrance.

Pure plant-based oils in large packaging

Almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil. Without fragrance, with low cost per use, suitable for massages. See also the related category massage.

Targeted care oils

Formulas designed for skin elasticity and for the appearance of scars and stretch marks. More in the section stretch marks and repair.

What changes from formula to formula

• Squalane: extremely light, does not clog pores, ideal for dry oils.
• Almond oil and coconut oil: rich, emollient, with a very good massage feel.
• Jojoba oil: its formula is similar to sebum, easily absorbed.
• Vitamin E: an antioxidant that protects the oil itself from oxidation.
• Essential oils: they give the fragrance, but in sensitive skin prefer formulas without them.
• Dark or opaque bottle: protects fatty acids from light and extends shelf life.

Popular choices

The Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse is the most recognizable dry oil in the category, with Florale and Or versions for those who want shine. The Bio-Oil PurCellin consistently ranks first in sales for dry areas and for elasticity care. Among pure plant-based oils, the Chemco almond oil in large packaging and the Apivita Natural Oil cover daily use and massage. For shine, the Youth Lab Shimmering Dry Oil and the Frezyderm Dry Oil stand out, while the series Weleda, Messinian Spa and HEI POA offer more botanical compositions.

How to apply correctly

Spread it on damp skin immediately after the shower, with the palms, starting from the shins. Two to three presses are enough for the whole body, especially for dry oils. If you have very dry skin, the best routine is to first use a product from the body milks and then a few drops of oil on top. Leave it for two to three minutes before dressing. Before prolonged sun exposure, use sunscreen and not just oil. More related sections in body care and in foam baths.

Frequently asked questions

Oil or body cream?

They are not competitive. The cream brings water and moisturizing agents, the oil keeps them in. For normal skin, one of the two is enough, for very dry skin the combination works best.

Does it stain clothes?

Dry oils rarely leave a mark if you let a few minutes for them to absorb. Thick plant-based oils need care, so they are better suited for evening application.

Can I put it on my face?

Only if the product states it. Some oils are comedogenic and may not suit oily skin prone to acne.

Does the oil have an expiration date after opening?

Yes, see the symbol with the open jar on the packaging. Plant-based oils age with time, so keep them away from light and heat.
