Anti-aging serums: the step with the most powerful actives

If there is one point in the routine where the choice of ingredient really matters, it is here. Fine lines, rough microrelief and dilated pores do not improve with the texture of a product but with what it contains and in what percentage. The serum is the right vehicle, because it gives a high concentration without the weight of a cream.

But some realism is needed. No cosmetic can stop chronological aging of the skin. What a good anti-aging serum does is improve the appearance of fine lines, texture and radiance, and protect against environmental factors that accelerate aging. Ninety percent of prevention, by the way, is sunscreen.

Retinol, peptides or antioxidants?

Retinol has the most data in its favor, but it requires evening use, gradual introduction and tolerance during the adaptation period. Peptides are the mild alternative: they have no adaptation period and combine with everything, with a more discreet effect. Antioxidants, with vitamin C first, work preventively and give radiance from the start. The most reasonable combination for most people is antioxidants in the morning and retinol or peptides in the evening.

What to look for on the label

• Retinol or retinoic acid: from 0.1 to 0.3 percent in cosmetics, always in opaque packaging.
• Peptides: matrixyl, argireline and peptide complexes, without restrictions on use.
• Vitamin C: antioxidant protection and radiance, ideally in the morning.
• Niacinamide: improves texture and tone and reduces irritation from retinol.
• Hyaluronic acid: immediate smoothing of the microrelief, essential companion.
• Resveratrol and vitamin E: stabilize the rest of the antioxidants and enhance their action.

Popular options

The La Roche-Posay Retinol B3 is the most sought-after option for those who want retinol with good tolerance, while the La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C12 covers the antioxidant side. The Vichy Liftactiv Collagen Specialist relies on peptides and is one of the most consistently preferred. The Apivita C15 Propolis offers a more herbal approach, the Lierac Protocole Anti-Rides targets more targeted use, and the Evdermia Silken is the discreet Greek option.

How to start without paying for it

The most common mistake is haste. Start two nights a week, on dry skin, with a small amount. After fifteen days go to three, and increase only if there is no redness or peeling. The same night do not combine retinol with acids. The next day sunscreen is not optional. If the skin tightens, take a few days off and return with a moisturizer before and after the serum. Frequently asked questions

From what age does it make sense?

Antioxidants make sense from twenty-five as prevention. Retinol usually from thirty and onwards, when the first stable lines appear.

I peel off in the second week. Should I stop?

Reduce the frequency and enhance hydration. If peeling continues or is accompanied by burning, stop and ask a pharmacist or dermatologist.

Can I use retinol in pregnancy?

Retinoid derivatives are avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor and prefer peptides or vitamin C.

Do I need a separate product for the eyes?

The area is thinner and reacts more easily. Products designed for it are in eye creams and masks.
