Proper personal hygiene and care contribute to the maintenance of the health of the perineal area and should not disturb its particular physiology, as it is shaped by the normal microbial flora, natural humidity and, primarily, the pH. The pH of the perineal area depends on both age and the 'hormonal identity' of the woman in each age period and is a key criterion for choosing the appropriate cleaning product.
The most sensitive period in a woman's life is pregnancy, where hormonal changes affect the normal image of the skin. The needs for hydration increase, the skin loses its elasticity and the production of collagen and elastin is affected, resulting in the creation of unwanted stretch marks (striae). To prevent as well as to address the creation of stretch marks, the skin needs enhanced hydration that will increase its resistance and elasticity. Also, during pregnancy as well as during lactation, there is a need for a softening care of the nipples.
