Vitamin K is well-known for its role in the synthesis of a number of blood clotting factors. In recent years, it has been discovered that vitamin K2 and the proteins dependent on it are vital for bones and vascular health. These proteins are now known to play a central role in the physiology of bone mineralization, as well as in maintaining vascular elasticity.

NOW MK-7 VitaminK-2 contains a highly biologically active form of vitamin K2, derived from natto, a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans by Bacillus subtilis.
MK-7 seems to have a longer duration than synthetic MK4, and may also reduce ucOC (undercarboxylated osteocalcin) in blood serum. The ucOC is a biological indicator of the vitamin K status in the body, and has an inverse relationship with vitamin K intake. Higher absorption of vitamin K by the body means a further reduction of ucOC in blood serum. Thus, it appears that MK-7 has greater absorption and utilization than the synthetic MK4.
