Hydration

Moisturizing Eye Cream: when the issue is hydration, not age

There is a distinction that solves most questions in this category: one is dryness and the other is dehydration. Dryness means a lack of lipids and is a permanent characteristic of the skin. Dehydration means a lack of water, is temporary and can happen to anyone, even to oily skin. In the eye contour, dehydration is immediately visible, with fine horizontal lines that appear within a few days and disappear as soon as the skin gets moisture. They are not wrinkles and do not require an anti-aging product.

The most common scenario in the pharmacy is someone who spends the day in an air-conditioned space, in front of a screen, with little water and dry air. There, the desired is not strong active ingredients but a proper moisturizing base that will keep the moisture in.

Textures and forms: what to choose

Gels and fluids are absorbed in seconds, do not weigh down the eyelid and are the best choice for the morning, especially if makeup follows. Creamy textures provide longer comfort and are suitable for the evening routine. Eye serums have a more fluid consistency and go in before the cream, without replacing it. Balms in jars are for very dry skin and for winter. If you wear contact lenses or if your eyes easily tear, prefer light textures without fragrance and apply the product slightly lower, on the bone of the socket.

Ingredients that retain moisture

• Hyaluronic acid in different molecular weights: acts on multiple levels of the skin and softens dehydration lines.
• Glycerin: the most studied and stable moisturizer, with excellent tolerance in the area.
• D-Panthenol: gives a sense of relief to skin that pulls or tingles.
• Ceramides and cholesterol: replenish missing lipids and help maintain the barrier.
• Squalane: a light emollient that does not leave a greasy feeling on the eyelid.
• Thermal water and aloe: soothe easily reactive skin.

Popular options

The Bepanthol Intensive is the lean, fragrance-free option that many people trust for facial and eye dryness. The La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 combines hyaluronic acid with panthenol in two versions, eye cream and eye serum, and has a consistently high demand. The Bioderma Atoderm targets very dry and sensitive skin, while in supplements the Natura Siberica Lab Biome with hyaluronic acid and the Youth Lab Peptides Spring provide an intensive dose of hydration. In a more specialized case, the TALIKA Eye Therapy with reusable patches.

Practically, in everyday life

Apply the cream to freshly cleaned and still slightly damp skin, because this way more moisture is trapped. A rice grain per eye is enough. If the product collects under the concealer, use either a very large amount or a very rich texture for your type. A room humidifier in winter and closing the air conditioner at the office often make a bigger difference than changing the product.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just put the facial moisturizer?

If it doesn't bother you, yes. Special formulas make sense when the face cream pulls, weighs down the eyelid, or leaves white spots.

Why do I wake up with puffy eyelids while using moisturizer?

Usually it's the amount or the time of application. Try less product, at least an hour before bedtime, and a lighter texture.

Do I need both serum and cream?

Not necessarily. The serum adds moisture, the cream seals it. If your skin is very dry, the combination helps. Otherwise, one of the two is enough.

How quickly does it show a difference?

The feeling of comfort is immediate. Dehydration lines usually visibly recede within a few days of consistent use.
