Oiliness - Acne

Oily Skin and Acne-Prone Skin: What Happens to the Skin

Sebaceous glands produce sebum, a mixture of lipids that keeps the skin supple. When production increases due to hormonal fluctuations, heat, or heredity, sebum with dead cells clogs the follicle opening. This creates comedones, i.e., closed pimples with white heads and open ones that look like black spots. This is the comedogenic form. When bacteria from the skin multiply in the same area, the damage becomes red, swollen, and sensitive to touch, and we talk about inflammatory blemishes. The two forms often coexist and require a different approach.

The most common misconception is that oily skin needs as aggressive a cleansing as possible. The opposite is true. When you forcibly remove lipids, the barrier is disorganized and the skin often responds with even more shine. A skin that shines at noon and pulls after washing is not just oily, it is oily and dehydrated.

Organizing the Routine Step by Step

The Cleansing Step

Start with mild foaming textures that rinse off with water and do not leave a tugging sensation. The options are found in cleansing gels and foams, while for makeup removal and days when the skin is irritated, lotions and micellar waters help (lotions and micellar waters).

The Hydration Step

And oily skin hydrates, just with a different texture. The suggestions for effective matte hydration are lightweight, oil-free and leave no film. If you want coverage at the same time, check out the BB creams.

The Active Ingredients Step

This is where dense formulas come in. Serums work on the whole face, intensive care targets persistent blemishes and topical treatment is applied topically to a single lesion.

Weekly and Body Care

Once or twice a week, masks and scrubs give a feeling of clean pores. For blemishes lower down, there are special forms for decolletage and back.

Ingredients You'll See on Labels

• Salicylic Acid: liposoluble acid that goes inside the pore and helps remove the material that clogs it. It mainly works on comedones.
• Niacinamide: improves the appearance of texture and shine and is one of the best tolerated ingredients in sensitive skin.
• Zinc: combines with niacinamide for a balanced feel.
• Azelic Acid: gives uniformity to the tone, useful when red marks remain.
• AHA and LHA: surface exfoliation for clarity and radiance.
• Thermal Water and Panthenol: soothe when acids make the skin sensitive.
• Indication non-comedogenic: formulas designed not to clog pores. Indication of design, not guarantee.

Popular Choices of Our Customers

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar has the highest demand in the category, from cleansing gel to dense serum. It is followed by Avene Cleanance with its mild textures and Vichy Normaderm. The Bioderma Sebium and the Frezyderm Ac-Norm cover teenage skin, the Ducray Keracnyl has a stable audience in gels, while the Apivita Just Bee Clear caters to those who prefer plant-based ingredients. More dense suggestions come from URIAGE Hyseac, BIRETIX and The Ordinary.

Practical, No Hype

Two cleansings a day are enough. One active ingredient at a time, with a gradual increase in frequency. Sunscreen every morning because acids and marks need coverage. Do not squeeze the blemishes. And give time, because the skin's renewal cycle takes weeks, not days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide?

Salicylic acid is liposoluble and acts inside the pore, so it is suitable for comedones. Benzoyl peroxide targets the bacterial component of inflammatory lesions and is marketed as a medicinal preparation. Your pharmacist or dermatologist will determine which one suits you best.

Why does my condition worsen when I over-dry my skin?

Excessive drying disrupts the barrier. The skin becomes more irritated, flakes, active ingredients are flushed out, and shine often returns more intense during the day.

I have acne in my forties. Is it normal?

It is quite common, especially in women. Adult acne usually appears on the chin and jawline, follows the cycle and has a strong hormonal character. Dermatological assessment shows if anything beyond cosmetics is needed.

When should I see a dermatologist?

When blemishes are numerous, deep, painful, or leave marks, or when after two to three months of proper care you see no difference. Moderate and severe acne are medical issues and cosmetics have a supportive role alongside treatment.
