Hydration - Matte Finish

Hydration with a mat finish: why oily skin also needs hydration

Oily skin and hydration are two different things. Sebum is fat, hydration is water. A skin can be shiny in the T-zone and at the same time have low water content in the upper layers. Then the known picture appears: shiny, but also dull appearance, small dehydration lines and makeup that sits poorly. The hydrating cream with a matt finish gives water and moisture retention, without adding weight.

The misconception that is heard most often is that skipping the cream will reduce shine. The opposite happens. Skin that lacks moisture tends to look more dull and the feeling of oiliness returns faster during the day.

Textures, finishes and indicators

Gel-cream and fluid

The lightest textures. They are absorbed in seconds, leave no film and are the safe choice for summer and for shiny skin.

Cream with shine regulators

Contains powders that absorb sebum, such as perlite or silica, and keeps a matt finish for a few hours. Suitable for combination to oily skin and under makeup.

Hydration with sun protection index

Two steps in one, useful for everyday use. However, if you follow a treatment or use acids, a separate sunscreen with a higher index gives better coverage.

Hydration with color

Light coverage for days when you want uniformity without make-up. See also the BB creams or the more general facial hydration.

What makes the difference in the composition

• Hyaluronic acid and glycerin: draw and retain water without a greasy feeling.
• Niacinamide: one of the few ingredients that work simultaneously on texture, shine and tone uniformity.
• Absorbing powders: perlite, silica, clay, for the matt finish.
• Zinc: a common ally in balancing formulas.
• Oil free and non-comedogenic index: indicates a design without oils and with reduced likelihood of pore clogging.
• Panthenol and thermal mineral water: useful when the skin pulls from active ingredients.

Popular options

The Avene Cleanance Comedomed is one of the most requested suggestions for daily care of imperfections, while the URIAGE Hyseac covers both the matt finish and the tinted versions. The Vichy Normaderm and the Ducray Keracnyl have steady demand for the light gels, the Frezyderm Ac-Norm offers a version with sun protection, and the BIRETIX Hydramat is aimed at those who want something more specialized. Milder options are provided by the Evdermia Silken Face, the Sebamed Clear Face and the Apivita Just Bee Clear, while the Rilastil Acnestil and the ADERMA Biology AC complete the picture.

How and when to apply it

After cleansing and serum, on slightly damp skin, with a small amount and simple upward movements. In the morning, sunscreen follows, in the evening it can be the last step. If the makeup sits in lumps, wait one to two minutes for it to absorb before continuing. And don't forget the neck, which often stays out of the routine.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the mat finish last?

Usually a few hours, depending on the temperature and your activity. It is not permanent and does not replace refreshing with a tissue mat during the day.

Do I need a different cream in summer and winter?

Very often yes. The same skin may want fluid in July and light cream in January. Watch how it reacts and adapt.

My cream clogs my pores. How do I know?

If within two to three weeks many small comedones appear in the same areas, try a lighter texture with a non-comedogenic indication.

Can I put it on while doing a treatment?

Hydration is often exactly what the skin needs alongside a treatment, because it limits the feeling of dryness. Choose a mild, fragrance-free formula and consult your dermatologist.
