Doctor's Formulas Magnesium Citrate 200mg: what is it and who is it for

The Magnesium Citrate of Doctor's Formulas is a dietary supplement in tablets with citrate magnesium, 200mg per tablet, in a pack of 60 tablets. The dosage is flexible, one or two tablets per day, so everyone adjusts the intake to their needs in consultation with their pharmacist.

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant metal in the human body. Most of it is found in bones and muscles, while very little circulates in the blood, which is why a simple blood test does not always give a complete picture. Magnesium contributes to the balance of electrolytes*, to normal energy metabolism*, to the normal function of muscles*, to the normal function of the nervous system*, to the normal psychological function*, to the normal protein synthesis*, to the reduction of fatigue and tiredness*, to the maintenance of normal bone and teeth condition* and has a role in the process of cell division*.

The ingredients one by one

Citrate magnesium, 200mg per tablet

Citrate magnesium is the salt of magnesium with citric acid, the same organic acid that gives citrus fruits their sour taste. It belongs to the organic magnesium salts, which dissolve better in water than the inorganic salts like oxide. It is one of the most common forms of magnesium in supplements internationally, precisely because it combines good solubility with a reasonable tablet size.

Citric acid as a carrier

Citric acid is not an inert filler. It is an intermediate molecule of the Krebs cycle, the central metabolic process by which cells produce energy. In the formula it acts as a carrier that keeps magnesium in a soluble form.

How much magnesium do we get from the diet

The main dietary sources of magnesium are green leafy vegetables, dried fruits, legumes, seeds, dark chocolate and whole grain products. Food processing significantly reduces their content, as magnesium is lost along with the bran during milling. A supplement comes to cover the difference when the daily diet is not sufficient, without ever replacing it.

Who is it suitable for

It is aimed at adults who want a classic, well-dissolved form of magnesium in tablets and prefer to start with one tablet a day, with the possibility to increase to two. It is also convenient for those who follow an exercise program or sweat a lot in the summer months, as electrolytes are lost with sweat. It is not intended for children. In case of kidney insufficiency, on medication or during pregnancy and breastfeeding, consult your doctor first.

FAQs

One or two tablets?

The guideline is 1 to 2 tablets per day. Start with one and discuss with your pharmacist if you need to increase to two. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

What is the difference from chelated diglycine magnesium?

These are different salts of the same metal. Citrate is an organic salt with very good solubility in water, while diglycine is bound to the amino acid glycine and is usually preferred by those with a sensitive digestive system. The choice is a matter of tolerance and preference.

Morning or evening?

There is no mandatory time of intake. Choose a fixed time of day so you don't forget it and prefer taking it with a little water.

How long does the package last?

With one tablet per day the 60 tablets cover two months, while with two tablets a month.

Can it relax the intestine?

Magnesium salts in high quantities may have a relaxing effect on the intestine. If this happens to you, reduce the dose and ask your pharmacist.

I take antibiotics or other medications.

Keep a distance of two hours from tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics. For any other treatment, inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?

The package does not carry a vegan or vegetarian declaration. Check the label or ask your pharmacist.
